Smith Rock State Park in Oregon has potential. We were running out of time this morning so we just grabbed shots from various viewpoints.
We were fortunate to navigate up to Alta ghost town and get this image. Out the window is Mt. Wilson, partially obscured by clouds. My wife did a good job driving our 4Runner through some October snow to reach Alta!

The bizarre is easily found in the Bisti Badlands of New Mexico. This place is called the Egg Hatchery. No markers or paths are out there. Just you & your camera (and a GPS device!)
