International Photo Community Launches 2006 Photographer of the Year Contest

International Photo Community Launches 2006 Photographer of the Year Contest

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) May 19, 2006

Excellent photography does not always come from the most expensive cameras.

Wendy Roscoe of Australia proved that point when she used her professional experience in simply photographing her daughter with a Nikon D70 and posting it on her Nikonians.org Gallery.

The image caught the attention of the Nikonians Masters Society, composed of outstanding professional and distinguished advanced amateur photographers around the world, and resulted in her selection as the color category winner of Nikonians Photographers of the Year 2005 contest.

“Her winning photograph shows us all the ability to produce excellent work, by concentrating on the image and fundamentals of composition,” said Chris Gray, Director of Nikonians Photo Contests. “We depend on members like her to help us learn the craft.”

Roscoe’s winning entry in the color category was joined by black and white honorees in the 2005 contest, which drew 1,294 entries at an average of 100 per month said Gray.

She now can add a new Nikon D70s kit, with an 18-70 DX lens to her equipment list. She won the kit as well as a one year Gold Membership with Nikonians.org.

Nikonians member Oliver Kuerten of Germany took first place honors in the black and white category with his photo “Flying V.” Oliver won a Nikon D70s camera kit with an 18-70 DX lens and one year Gold Membership with Nikonians.org.

Second place color category winner Stephan Maurer, also of Germany, earned a Tamrac Expedition 7 camera bag and one year Gold Membership with Nikonians with his photo entitled “Harem.”

Nico Housen, of Belgium, also won a Tamrac camera bag and one year gold membership with his second place black and white entry “Bird on a Branch.”

“The addition of quality prizes from sponsors like Nikon and Tamrac was a big plus for the contest,” said Chris Gray.

“Now, we have the 2006 judging by our Nikonians Masters Society looking for the next winners,” he said. “The entries are judged by our panel of expert Nikonians photographers, who cast their vote on the photographs received within a given period.”

Finals awards and prizes will be announced and awarded in the first half of February, 2007. During the course of the year, Nikonians also recognizes exemplary work by fellow members with their Moderators Choice Awards.

“Each month two of our numerous picture taking and sharing forums are identified and the moderators of those forums make their choice,” said Gray.

Jon LaCorte, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Nikon Sport Optics, said, “Tred takes hunting and fishing to the limit and Nikon goes with him every step of the way. Tred exemplifies the qualities of Nikon optics products, as he demands the best of himself and his equipment under the harshest conditions. Freedman, famed for creating the phenomenal licensing and entertainment success with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles through Surge, added, “Tred Barta is opening a new era of licensing based on his real life approach to hunting and fishing.
